Southern Oregon Earns Postseason Accolades, All-Conference Teams Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. – With the release of the all-conference teams, Southern Oregon’s Ashley Claussen has been unanimously voted the 2015-16 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced.
Claussen finished as the conference’s best scorer, averaging 18.1 points a game while also averaging the third most assists per game at 3.8. She led her team to the best finish in the regular season and the highest scoring offense at 88.2 points per game. Claussen also ended the season as the conference leader in steals (87) and in three-pointers made with 88.
Northwest Christian’s Monique Thompson earned a share of the conference’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year award after helping her team to a fourth-place finish in the regular season standings. Thompson averaged 3.6 defensive rebounds a game as a guard, totaled 59 steals and helped the Beacons to the fourth best defense in the conference.
Along with Thompson, Southern Oregon’s Toria Bradford has also been voted as the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year, helping lead the Raiders to the third best defense in the CCC. Bradford averaged the fourth most steals in the conference at 2.1 steals per game, totaling 64 steals on the year.
In her first season as a Raider, Courtney Setzer averaged 9.3 points per game and added 5.5 rebounds to earn CCC’s Freshman of the Year. Setzer held the third best field goal percentage in the conference at 59.4 percent while finishing fifth in total blocks at 31.
Southern’s success didn’t end there as first year head coach Alex Carlson was also made the CCC Coach of the Year after leading his team to a regular season title and the Cascade Conference Championship. The Raiders finished 29-1 overall and held their highest ranking at number five in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech each finished with three players on the All-Conference list to lead all teams while Northwest Christian landed two players.
