Northwest Sweeps Walla Walla in Two 5 Inning Games
COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Walla Walla University’s softball team loses their double header at home against the Northwest University Eagles 16-6 and 10-0 on Friday afternoon.
Game 1
Walla Walla (0-6, 0-2) starting pitcher Nicole Brown struggled early in the first inning as she walked three straight batters and gave up 6 runs. Brown eventually settled in, and got out of the inning with a strikeout and some help from her teammates. Hannah Dalrymple secured the groundout at third for the second out and Lauren Pernu recorded the third out with a groundout to second.
Northwest University (5-7, 2-0) did a lot of damage in their first at bats, as they scored 6 runs, led by Courtney Cox’s home run. Eagle’s pitcher Kelli Peckham did a solid job for Northwest and held the Wolves to only to two runs through four innings. At the end of the 2
nd the score was 7-2, and after the third and fourth innings the Eagles held a commanding 16-2 lead due to Allie Anderegg and Savannah Rush’s home runs.
Despite Northwest’s 16-2 advantage, Walla Walla never backed down and at the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded, Nicole Brown hit a grand slam. This also happened to be her first ever home run. Although Walla Walla fell to the Eagles 16-6, they ended the game with a very strong and exciting offensive performance.
Game 2
The Wolves struggled at the plate with Hannah Dalrymple connecting on Walla Walla’s only hit of the game. Northwest’s Hannah Yelas had an impressive game pitching for the Eagles as she finished the game with five strikeouts and held Walla Walla to zero runs. Northwest University defeated the Wolves at the end of five innings by a score of 10-0.
