NCU Sweeps Doubleheader from Eagles
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest Christian swept a Cascade Conference doubleheader from Northwest University, 4-1 and 5-3 this afternoon at Everest Park in Kirkland. NCU’s Breanne Johnson limited Northwest U to 4 hits as the Bacons took game one, 4-1. In game two, the Beacons held off a late comeback attempt by Northwest U as they would prevail 5-3.
Game 1 – Northwest Christian 4, Northwest U 1
Northwest Christian’s Breanna Johnson pitched a 4-hitter giving up just one earned run as the Beacons defeated Northwest U 4-1.
NCU scored early in the first and third innings to build their 4-0 lead which held up until Northwest U managed to score a single run in the bottom of the 7th. Jessica Garner led off the first inning with a single and would score on a double by teammate Kyndle DelCollo.
The Beacons would add three more runs in the third on a sacrifice bunt by Anita Singh scoring Kandace Furlong. DelCollo would drive in another run with a single to left field and would score on Ashlee Cole’s triple down the right field line.
Johnson would then limit Northwest U to just 2 hits the remainder of the game as the Beacons would post the CCC win.
Kyndle DelCollo led Northwest Christian (6-17, 2-3 CCC) going 2 for 3, scoring a run and batting in 2 RBIs. Jessica Garner scored two runs while going 3 for 4 from the plate.
Northwest U’s (7-10, 4-3 CCC) Ricki Tacdol had two of the Eagles’ 4 hits going 2 for 4 and driving in the lone run. Kelli Peckham took the loss in the circle for NU.
Kyndle DelCollo was 2 for 3, scored a run and had two RBIs for Northwest Christian (6-17, 2-3 CCC). Jessica Garner went 3 for 4 and scored twice with Johnson earning the win.
Game 2 – NCU 5, Northwest U 3
Northwest U would score two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but would leave two runners stranded on base as Northwest Christian would hold on for the 5-3 victory to sweep the doubleheader.
Northwest Christian used their power as Kiara Vasquez would hit a two run home run in the 2nd inning to put NCU up 2-0 and Parker Fritter would hit a solo home run center field in the 3rd to give NCU a 3-0 lead. They would add another run in the 4th and 6th innings to lead 5-0.
Northwest U would get on the scoreboard in their half of the 6th when Danielle Bonsky would lead off with a double to center and score when Ricki Tacdol would bring her into score with a single.
Cara Cristion would walk to lead off the bottom of the 7th for Northwest U and Allie Anderegg would hit a one out, a 2-run home run over the center field fence. Bonsky would single and Ricki Tacdol would walk to put two on, but NCU would retire the side for the win.
Dani Bonsky went 4 for 4 and scored a run for Northwest U (7-11, 4-4 CCC) while Allie Anderegg was 1 for 2 with the home run and scored a run for the Eagles. Hanna Yelas took the loss pitching for NU.
Northwest Christian (7-17, 3-3 CCC) was led by Kiara Vasquez’s 3 RBIs and 1 for 2 from the plate with a home run. Kyndle DelCollo was 2 for 3 with one RBI and Parker Fritter was 1 for 3, scored a run and hit a home run for the Beacons. Janieve Boyles gets the win in the circle.
