2016 Division II Women's Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll – (March 2 - FINAL)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the final regular-season edition, Morningside (Iowa) stays on top of the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Wednesday. The postseason Top 25 Poll will be released on Wednesday, March 23.
Top 25 highlights (historical information dated back to 1991):
• For the second-straight week and sixth time overall this year, Morningside (Iowa) retains the No. 1 position.
• With all 11 first-place votes, this marks the fifth time this season the Mustangs were the unanimous No. 1 pick.
• Morningside will enter the national championship with the most wins on the year (31-2) and having won both the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
• Saint Xavier (Ill.), the other team to be No. 1 this year, locked down the second spot with 270 total points.
• No. 3 Southern Oregon improves two slots and is stationed in its highest ranking of the season. Since the Jan. 19th installment, the Raiders have steadily moved up from No. 11.
• No. 4 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) enjoys its highest position of the year.
• Falling back two spots, No. 5 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) rounds out the top five.
• The only newcomer, No. 25 Oregon Tech, has won four of five games overall to stand 25-8 on the season. The Hustin’ Owls were last ranked in the Feb. 2nd edition.
• The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Great Plains Athletic Conference lead the leagues with six teams represented each.
• No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan has the most No. 1 rankings in NAIA history with 34. Morningside is second with 28.
• Morningside holds the active streak of being ranked in the Top 25 (124). No. 5 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) streak of 117-straight is second.
• College of the Ozarks (2007-08), Morningside (2008-09) and Saint Francis (Ind.) (1999-00) are the only teams to go the entire season ranked No. 1.
Poll Methodology
• The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.
• The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
• The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.
• Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes”
