KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University men’s soccer coach, Gary McIntosh, has announced the signing of three student-athletes to attend and play soccer at the school in the fall. Payton Gunhus of Renton, Wash., Jordan Travis of Bothell, Wash., and Agazi Brikner of Redmond, Wash., have signed their national letters of intent to play for the Eagles.

Payton Gunhus is a four year varsity letter winner at Seattle Christian and was named team captain in his junior and senior seasons. He played in the WIAA state championship game in his freshman season and was a second team, all-league team member three years. Gunhus also earned three varsity letters in basketball and was a team captain. He played his select soccer for the Stingrays Soccer Club from 2012 to 2014 and helped lead the team to a state championship in 2014. Payton is now playing for the Impact FC.

“Payton will be a great addition to our back line defensively,” said Coach McIntosh. “He is a very instinctive player who makes good decisions in the back.”

Agazi Birkner is a two year starter and goalkeeper for the Redmond High School boys’ soccer team and also starts in goal for the Crossfire Select U18-19 Enslow club. The Crossfire team was a Founders Cup Tournament quarterfinalist this season. In 2014-15, his Crossfire team won the district championships and in 2013-14, the Crossfire Select U17 was a Challenge Cup regional qualifier in San Jose, Calif.

Said McIntosh about Birkner, “Agazi will bring added depth for our keeper position. He has good hands and foot work which is needed to be a good goalkeeper.”

Jordan Travis will graduate from the Travis Academy in Bothell, Wash., and was a member of a 2014-15 KingCo 4A championship team at Inglemoor High School which made their way to the WIAA state tournament semifinals. He played his select soccer for the Northshore Select Club in the 9th through 11th grades and with the Northwest Nationals in his senior year of high school.

“We are very excited about signing Jordan, Agazi, and Payton,” said Coach McIntosh. “They are going to fit in well with our soccer program and Northwest University. These players all of the skill set to be successful at the college level and I expect them to pick up the college game quickly and contribute for us right away.”
