FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Corban University sophomore standout Jason Bracken (Battle Ground, Wash.) not only bested his previous school record in the Decathlon on Monday and Tuesday, but he shattered the school record. While competing at the Pacific Combined Events, Bracken took the Corban University track & field team to new heights in the Decathlon, finishing in second place while setting the new school record in the process.
RESULTS
Bracken finished with a total of 6125 points over the course of the 10 events, and finished just 149 points behind the winner of the Decathlon, Kevin Robinson, an NCAA Division I athlete from Portland State University. The previous school record that Bracken set last year was 5650 points, but over the course of the two days, he went almost 500 points higher in the record-breaking performance. His score now ranks No. 2 overall in the NAIA.
Highlighting his performance included event wins in the Shot Put (43' 0.5"), the Discus (119' 6.5"), and the Javelin (163' 7.75"), scoring big points in all of the events. He also performed well in the High Jump, clearing a mark of 6' 3.25" to take second in the event, while also finishing in second in the 400 Meters with a time of 52.60 seconds. Finishing strong, he uncorked a third-place time of 4:53.14 in the 1500 Meters to cap off the school record.
"Jason Bracken ended up second behind a D1 senior from Portland State and scored over 400 points more than he did last year," said Corban head coach Norm Berney, "and he set another Corban record in the Decathlon. Caleb and Luke are recovering from injuries but they competed at a high level with Luke winning the Pole Vault."
Senior Caleb Wilkins (Milwaukie, Ore.) placed fifth overall in the Decathlon for the Warriors, while junior Luke Jackson (Milwaukie, Ore.) took 10th for Corban. Wilkins totaled 5190 points, while Jackson finished with 4345 points.
Wilkins finished the event strong in the 1500 Meters, taking second overall with a mark of 4:44.55. In the 400 Meters, he also showed well with a fourth-place finish and a time of 54.73 seconds. He then finished in fourth once again in the 110 Hurdles, crossing the finish line in 18.27 seconds. Moreover, Wilkins notched fourth-place finishes in the Pole Vault (11' 5.75") and the Javelin (144' 3.75").
Jackson shined for the Warriors in the Pole Vault, taking first in the event by clearing a height of 12' 9.5". Another solid finish for Jackson came in the Shot Put in which he registered a sixth-place toss of 32' 0.5".
