Game 2 – UMD 6, Eagles 2

UMD took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as they scored an unearned run on a throw to second on a stolen base. The Wolverines scored another run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to increase their lead to 2-0. Dearborn’s big inning came in the 6th inning when four runs came across home plate.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 7th when Janey Ganta hit a one out single to left field and Danielle Bonsky then tripled to right field scoring Ganta. Aubree Slocum then grounded out to second base, scoring Bonsky on the play, but that would be all the Eagles would be able to score as UMD would earn the win.
Candace Kitchen would pick up the win for Michigan-Dearborn (5-3) going 7 innings giving up 8 hits and 2 runs. Taylor Moceri led the Wolverines going 2 for 4 at the plate and scoring a run.
For Northwest U (2-4), Janey Ganta and Danielle Bonsky both went 2 for 3 scoring a run. Bonsky added a RBI with her triple. Kelli Peckham had a solid outing in the circle for the Eagles going 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 6 runs with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Said Coach Califano following the games, “We played nothing close to our potential and it cost us two games today. Kelli (Peckham) did a good job of pitching in the second game hitting her spots. We just left too many runners on base and committed errors which proved costly. All I ask is that the ladies are better tomorrow.”
NU takes on Dordt College of Sioux Center, Iowa on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., followed by Olivet Nazarene at 3:0 p.m.
