Behind Sydney White's right arm and several clutch at-bats, the Raiders topped College of Idaho twice Saturday afternoon at University Field, 5-3 and 6-3, to conclude a successful 8-2 homestand. SOU (25-11 overall, 11-5 CCC) remained in second place in the CCC's East Division going into Tuesday's games at Northwest Christian. C of I, which was also swept Friday at Oregon Tech, dropped to 11-14-1 overall and 5-9 in conference play. White (9-5) earned both decisions for the Raiders, going the distance in the opener while allowing one earned run with five strikeouts and two walks. It was the fifth straight start in which she pitched a complete game and yielded two earned runs or less. She got the win with 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief in Game 2, when Kayleen Smith and Nicole Cardoza lined consecutive run-scoring singles to right field with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a 3-3 game. Kelsey Randall went 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored in Game 1 and scored the go-ahead run in the third inning when Kayleen Smith's grounder to second was mishandled, allowing the Raiders to take a 2-1 lead. Megan Winton singled and Abigail Lund scored on a two-base error in the sixth, and Gonzalez – who went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in Game 2 – drove a double to left-center that brought home Randall and Aaliyah Oliver, making it 5-1. The Coyotes had their chances in the seventh: Alex Kordopatis hit a one-out RBI single, and Katie Rowe followed with a single of her own that scored Destiny Turner. But, on the same play, Bentli Corta was gunned down while trying to score by Winton in right field, and White induced a groundout to end it. C of I starter Cortni Pena was charged with three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, working around five hits and six walks. She was also victimized by three of the team's seven errors on the day. The Yotes knotted Game 2 in the sixth inning, 3-3, when Rowe and Delaney Atkins singled and Rowe came in on a fielder's choice. White, who entered with a one-run lead but inherited two runners, struck out the last two batters of the inning to preserve the tie. In the bottom of the sixth, Rebecca Velasquez and Alexa Gonzalez drew walks to set up Smith and Cardoza's heroics. Cardoza's was a two-run single, made possible by an error after Smith's hit that moved Smith to second and Gonzalez to third. White set the Yotes down in order in the seventh. She's improved to 7-3 with a 2.33 ERA in conference play and allowed just five earned runs in 42 innings pitched during the homestand. The Raiders are now 19-0 when leading after six innings this season. Turner went 4-for-8 and Kordopatis was 3-for-8 on the day for C of I. Ashley Pesek took the loss in Game 2, yielding nine hits and five walks in six innings of work. Victoria Mackey started the second game for SOU. She needed just 52 pitches to get through the first five innings while allowing six hits without a walk.
