Oregon Tech Falls Twice to No. 2 Lewis-Clark State College
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – No. 2 Lewis-Clark State College scored 14 unanswered run in game 1 and held off Oregon Tech in the finale, sweeping the Owls in a NAIA West doubleheader, 18-3 and 5-2, today at Kiger Stadium.
Oregon Tech drops to 11-28 on the season and 2-18 in NAIA West play. LCSC improved to 30-5 overall and 16-3 in league play.
Game 1- LCSC 18 vs OIT 3
After falling behind 4-1, Oregon Tech closed their deficit to 4-3 in the third inning. Ryan Grant plated Tech’s first run in the first inning on a fielder’s choice RBI. Matthew Moorehead tripled to left-center scoring Evan Johnson and Grant, who each singled earlier in the frame.
It was all LCSC from that point, tallying 14 unanswered runs, winning 18-3 after eight innings via the 10-run rule.
Grant, Johnson and Moorehead recorded two hits each in the opener for Tech. Micael Taylor took the loss going 4.0 innings and allowing nine hits and eight runs.
LCSC tallied a season-high 20 hits and 18 runs in the win. Jacob Zanon paced the Warriors with five hits and four RBI, including a pair of doubles. Robert Smith and Hayden Meier finished with three hits and three RBI apiece with Cabe Reiten driving in three runs. Smith and Reiten doubled and Peter Irvin tossed the final five innings to earn the win.
Game 2 – LCSC 5 vs OIT 2
It went scoreless over the first three innings before the Warriors notched a pair of runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to go up 4-0.
Oregon Tech managed a run in the seventh with both teams adding a run in the eighth frame to make it 5-2. The game would end by the same score after a scoreless ninth inning.
John Schulz suffered the loss for the Owls going six strong scattering seven hits and allowing four runs. Danny Topps finished 2-for-4, including a pair of doubles with Kai Fong adding a RBI in the loss. Matthew Moorehead added two hits with Tyler Bennett driving in a run on a single.
Jake Barnett earned the win for the Warriors tossing the middle three innings to move to 5-1 on the season. Kevin Hamann finished the final three innings to earn his first save of the season. Dylan Tashjian went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI with Chase Hafer adding a pair of hits in the win. Reiten added a double and Smith a RBI with Zanon driving in two runs on the games only homerun.
