SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women’s golf team made history on Tuesday, capturing the school’s first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season golf championship thanks to a dramatic come-from-behind performance at the Corban Spring Invite. The Warriors took second overall in its only home tournament of the year, finishing behind first-place University of British Columbia, but based on total strokes throughout conference tournaments during the 2015-16 campaign, the Warriors clinched the regular-season title.

The Warriors trailed College of Idaho by 41 strokes entering the final regular-season tournament of the year, but thanks to outscoring the Yotes by 51 total strokes on Monday and Tuesday, the Warriors overtook C of I in the standings for the championship by 10 strokes. While the Warriors won the regular-season title, the berth to the NAIA National Championships is determined in two weeks at the CCC Championships, set to take place in Eagle Point, Ore.

UBC’s tournament-winning two-round mark of 619 (308, 311) was paced by the individual winner of the tournament, Kat Kennedy, She registered a two-round mark of 150 (73, 77), while the Thunderbirds placed three others in the top five, running away with the championship.

Corban, which placed second overall in the tournament with a two-round score of 651 (325, 326), set a new school record for lowest two-round score ever. The Navy and Gold was led by junior Carrie Wallace (La Grande, Ore.), as she tied for fifth overall in the tournament with a score of 160 (79, 81). Right behind her was freshman Faith Udy (Woodland, Wash.), as Udy finished in eighth place with a score of 161 (81, 80), while fellow freshman Jenna Jensen shot a two-round score of 163 (81, 82) for ninth place.

The Warriors fourth-best performer in the tournament was freshman Casey Jansen (Waddell, Ariz.), as she signed her scorecard with a 169 (84, 85) in 15th overall, and fellow freshman Hannah Clarizio (Molalla, Ore.) took 16th overall with a score of 174 (91, 83). All five Warriors contributed to the come-from-behind regular-season championship.

The University of Victoria (B.C.) placed third as a team (657), while Oregon Tech took fourth (690). The Owls were led by Janelle Ferlan who tied for second overall individually with a pair of 76’s.

Rounding out the team scores were College of Idaho in fifth (702), and Simpson University in sixth (901).
