EUGENE, Ore. –Tyler Falk, a former NAIA All-American as a player, has officially been named the new Head Coach for both the men’s and women’s golf teams at NCU, removing the interim tag that he had this spring while guiding the men’s golf program.
This is the first collegiate coaching appointment for Falk, who has been playing in the professional ranks since graduating from Northwest Christian University in 2014. As the interim coach this spring, Falk guided the NCU men’s team to a second-place finish at the CCC Championship and coached freshman Josh Goins who won the CCC individual championship and qualified for the NAIA tournament.
Falk said, “I can honestly say from my heart that this is the right thing for me. As many know, I originally planned to continue pursuing the ranks of the PGA Tour as a professional, but I know this is God’s plan for me. While I never gave up on the dream of playing, my dream began to change. I care about the guys on the men’s team and they had a lot of influence on me applying for the job. The guys know that I believe in what they can do and now they believe in that too. We need to keep dreaming big and continue acting on what we have been envisioning as a team.”
Falk had a highly decorated four-year career at NCU that included three All-CCC awards and one All-American nod. He burst onto the scene as a freshman, earning CCC Player of the Year honors after owning a 74.1 stroke average.
As a senior, Falk won the Cascade Conference Championship and was the first Beacon to ever qualify for the NAIA National Tournament. That year he also set a school record with a 72.1 stroke average, won four tournaments and snagged his second Player of the Year award.
Over the past two years, Falk spent time on various tours and played on numerous PGA tour and Web.com tour qualifiers. In 2015 his scoring average was 69.8. He has also worked as a caddy at extremely private and prestigious golf courses in Indian Wells, California and at Bandon Dunes Golf resort.
Athletic Director Corey Anderson said, “We are excited to be able to retain Tyler Falk as our Head Golf Coach going into the fall of 2016. Tyler's leadership this spring was evident on the course up through the CCC Championships. Tyler's experience as a 3-time CCC Player of the Year while competing for the Beacons quickly became a competitive trait that formed the foundation that Tyler coached by this spring. His ability to get guys to learn to compete, and be great teammates at the same time, showed that Tyler has the skill-set to coach ‘team’ golf at this level. We are pleased to be able to grow with Tyler in the coaching profession as he grows with us.”
One of the first tasks for Falk will be relaunching a women’s golf program which has been dormant for the past two years. “I know that developing a women’s team and holding them to a reasonable expectation is part of the foundation that will allow them to grow and become competitors in the Cascade Conference,” said Falk. “I want the same thing for the women as I do for the men.”
