DAY ONE RESULTS

HERMISTON, Ore. - With 11 events scored, the College of Idaho (COI) women’s track & field team posted 108 points on Friday to take a comfortable lead in the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

The Yotes garnered four event titles for a total of 40 points, while Eastern Oregon (EOU) totaled 77 points to sit in second place. Corban racked up 57.50 points to take third, while Northwest Christian (NCU) totaled 56 points to round out the top four. Southern Oregon (SOU) (37), Oregon Tech (OIT) (32), Northwest (25.50), Evergreen (21), and Warner Pacific (WPC) (13) completed the standings after day one.

The Yotes were led by senior phenom and this year’s heptathlon winner Tiana Thomas, who won the 400m dash and the 100m hurdles. She recorded a time of 15.08 seconds in the 100m hurdles to give the Yotes their fifth event crown in the last six years. COI added 18 more points and collected its first-ever title in the 400m dash, as both Thomas (56.54) and Nichole DeGrange (56.83) notched “A” standard times to go 1-2 in the event.

From EOU, Harley McBride and Laura Dauz went 1-2 to open the meet in the high jump with marks of 1.65m and 1.60m, respectively. For McBride, it marked her third-straight title in the event.

The shot put saw COI’s Hayley Morse come in tabbed first and defend that ranking, heaving 12.82m followed by EOU’s Marta Stangel (12.54m).

Stangel ultimately got revenge in the hammer, taking first with a mark of 45.07m, well ahead of Morse’s tally of 40.36m.

NCU went 1-2 in a rugged steeplechase, as Michelle Fletcher (11:01.02) and Macie Gale (11:24.63) garnered 18 points for the Beacons.

In the 4x100m relay, EOU’s quartet of Amie Zitterkob, Kendall Current, Megan Sullivan, and Andrea Lemus posted a season-best time of 47.62 to take first overall. The foursome broke COI’s three-year streak in the event.

The 1500m run ran fast, as four competitors uncorked NAIA “A” standard times. COI’s Amy Pfaff defended her title with a time of 4:33.22, just edging SOU’s Jessa Perkinson (4:33.42).

Back on the field, NCU’s Shaneesa Applegate scored a “B” standard mark of 5.60m to take first overall, while EOU’s Morgan Reddington (5.59m)  broke a 44-year-old school record en route to snagging second place.

A grueling 10,000m run saw only one competitor break the 40-minute mark. NCU’s Rosa Schmidt clocked a first-place time of 38:56.08, nearly three minutes ahead of Corban’s Lexi Mitzel (40:17.94).
