2016 Track & Field Athletes of the Meet Announced
HERMISTON, Ore. – With the conclusion of the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, the conference head coaches have voted on the track and field athletes of the meet.
Southern Oregon’s Jared Hixon earned men’s track athlete of the meet after finishing first in both the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:53.76. Hixon also claimed the 5,000-meter championship after running a time of 14:30.42, finishing 15 seconds faster than second place.
Eric England of Eastern Oregon, was named the men’s field athlete of the meet. England earned the long mark in the triple jump at 15.87m, while coming in second in the long jump (7.22m), and helped his 4x100 team finish in second with a time of 41.86.
On the women’s side, College of Idaho swept both award with Tiana Thomas earning the track athlete of the meet and Claire Otero earning the field athlete of the meet. Thomas finished first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.08), 400-meter dash (56.54), 400-meter hurdles (1:00.22) and was the heptathlon champion a few weeks ago. She was also a part of the 4x400 relay team that came in first place with a time of 3:52.48.
Otero was the championship in the discus with a distance of 44.46m and claimed fourth place in the shot put at 12.16m.
