Eight Run Inning Gets Oregon Tech by Dickinson State in NAIA Opening Round Play
REDDING, Calif. – Ann-Marie Guischer tossed a four-hitter and Oregon Tech scored eight runs on two outs in a fourth inning rally, cruising to a 12-3 win over No. 16 Dickinson State (N.D.) in the opening game of the Simpson University NAIA Opening Round Bracket.
No. 26 Oregon Tech will take on host and seventh-ranked Simpson University, a 10-0 winner over Eastern Oregon University earlier today, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Scoreless through three innings, Oregon Tech took advantage of three Dickinson State errors to load the bases with two outs. The clutch hit came off the bat of Alyssa Davis, lining a single up the middle driving in the first two runs of the game. An infield single by Karly LeVeque scored Cassidy Hoglund, while Davis came around to score on the long throw from shortstop to first base. LeVeque would come all the way around from first to score on a double by McKenzie Shrum, as the Owls moved up 5-0. The two-out rally didn’t stop there as Tara Moates, with runners on second and third, highlighted the inning with a three-run blast to right field giving Tech an 8-0 cushion.
Tech managed to increase their lead with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. LeVeque and Katie Virtue singled in a run each, while a walk to Moates, and an illegal pitch, made it 12-0.
Anne-Marie Guischer (12-8), who had a no-hitter through the first four innings, allowed four hits and three runs in the fifth inning. A strikeout, her eighth on the day, ended the game via the 8-run mercy rule.
Sydni Scott was 3-for-3, while Shrum, LeVeque, and Virtue added two hits each in the win. Shrum doubled twice and the homerun by Moates were Tech’s three extra base hits. Moates drove in four runs with LeVeque and Davis recording two RBI apiece. Shrum and Virtue added RBI’s for the Owls.
