POOLER, Ga. – The Corban University women's golf team closed out a record-breaking 2015-16 campaign with a 22nd-place finish at the NAIA National Championships on Friday. For the Warriors, it was the first time the team had ever competed at the NAIA National Championships, thus the 22nd-place showing was the highest Corban had ever finished.

RESULTS

"I'm very proud of the way the ladies battled out there today," said Corban head coach Tom Graves. "It became evident that a couple of them didn't have their "A" games today, but they played with a lot of heart and kept their composure on the course. This was a great learning experience for them, and hopefully we will make it back next year and be more competitive."

While dealing with tough course conditions and poor weather throughout the tournament, the Warriors finished with a two-round total of 667 (331, 336). The tournament was originally scheduled to be a four-round 72-hole tournament, but due to the multiple lightning delays and torrential downpours, it was shortened to a 36-hole tournament. This was the first time in the 22-year history of the event that it had been shortened due to weather and the first time that a champion had been crowned after 36 holes of play.

Leading the way individually and tying for 57th overall was freshman Casey Jansen (Waddell, Ariz.), as she registered the best two-round score of her rookie season with a tournament total of 159, showing consistency with a 79 in round one and an 80 in round two.

Corban's second-best golfer at the tournament was fellow freshman Hannah Clarizio (Molalla, Ore.), as she signed a tournament total of 165 (81, 84), while junior Carrie Wallace (La Grande, Ore.) came into the clubhouse with a solid second-round score of 80 to finish with a tournament total of 168 (88, 80).

Rounding out Corban's scorers were the freshmen duo of Jenna Jensen (Kalispell, Mont.) at 178 total strokes (83, 95), and Faith Udy (Woodland, Wash.) with a tournament total of 182 (90, 92).

The NAIA National Champion for the second-straight year was Keiser (Fla.), and it marked the school's third championship in program history (2003, 2015, 2016).

Corban returns its entire team for the 2016-17 campaign and will look to defend its Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season and tournament crowns. First year head coach Tom Graves will look to build on this strong start to the new era of Corban Golf while reloading and gearing up for another exciting season beginning in the fall.

The 2016-17 Corban golf schedules are set to be announced during the upcoming summer.
