Hustlin’ Owls in 10th Place after 1st Day of 2016 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship
SILVIS, Ill. – The Oregon Tech Men's Golf Team is tied for 10
th out of 30 teams after the first round of play at the 2016 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship which is being held at TPC Deere Run. Oregon Tech shot a +17, 301 after the first round and trail the Owls of William Woods who shot even-par 284 to lead the field.

“We just battled the course today,” said Coach Jeff Corkill. “To a man, we did not play our best and felt like we left a lot of shots out there. Tomorrow will be a new opportunity to prove ourselves.”
Leading the Owls in the first round was Houston Knox who shot a +3 over par 74 in the first round and sits in a tie for 26
th place five strokes behind the leaders.
Knox got off to a good start has he went birdie-birdie after the first two holes. He quickly gave those two strokes back as he double-bogeyed the next hole to fall to even. Knox finished the front nine at a +3 but finished the back nine at even par for his 74.
David Murphy and Tyler Swinton are just one stroke behind Knox after a pair of first round 75’s. Tech’s Josh Whitley is just two strokes back of Murphy and Swinton after a first round 77 with Tech’s last golfer Montana Frame just one stroke behind Whitley after a 78.
Oregon Tech returns to action tomorrow, May 25
th, as they tee off at 9:10 am (CST) in the second round. The Owls will be paired with USC Beaufort (S.C.) and St. Ambrose (Iowa) who sit in 10
th place and 20
th place respectively.
