Oregon Tech Men's Golf Move into a Tie for 8th after Day 2 of 2016 NAIA National Championship
SILVIS, Ill. – The Oregon Tech Men's Golf Team is tied for 8
th place, 16 strokes behind the leaders, after the first two rounds of play at the 2016 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship which is being held at TPC Deere Run. Oregon Tech shot a 16 over par for a total of 300 combined with yesterday’s 301 which puts the Hustlin’ Owls at 601 for the two rounds.
The Owls of William Woods continue to lead the 30 team field after firing 301 today to go along with their 284 on Tuesday. The top 17 schools after tomorrow’s third round will move on to Friday’s final round along with the top 40 individuals.
“We keep fighting,” said Head Coach Jeff Corkill. “We still have a long way to go to make the cut but we are right on track.”
Oregon Tech started on hole number 10 today and is being led by David Murphy who was 3 over par for a 74 today to go along with his 75 yesterday. Murphy is tied for 27
th with ten other golfers. Murphy was 1 over par to start the day on the back 9 then finished the front nine at a +2 for his 74.
Following Murphy is Montana Frame who was two over par on the back nine but responded with a 1 under par on the front nine for a 72. Frame is one stroke back of Murphy at a +8 for the tournament.
Josh Whitley started great on the back nine firing an even par 36 but struggled on the front nine giving up 5 strokes including a triple bogey 7 on hole 5.
Oregon Tech returns to action tomorrow, May 26
th, as they tee off at 7:30 am (CST) in the third round. The Owls will be paired with Texas Wesleyan and Webber International who sit in 7
th place and 8
th place respectively.
