DAY ONE RECAP

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Junior Eric England broke set a school record in the long jump en route to earning All-America honors, and the Eastern Oregon University track & field team saw junior Matthew Kirkendall qualify for the finals of the 110m hurdles on day two of the 2016 NAIA Outdoor National Championships.

England took fourth place overall in the long jump, flying 7.45m (24-5.50) on his fifth and final attempt to edge Doane’s Kale Wolken, who posted a leap of 7.44m. With Friday’s performance, England is now a three-time NAIA All-American and will look to cap his junior campaign tomorrow by shooting for the triple jump crown.

Almost immediately following the conclusion of the long jump, Kirkendall used a strong start in the 110m hurdles to snag second in his heat and tie for seventh overall to qualify for the finals, recording the third-fastest time (14.61) in school history. Meanwhile, senior Ryan Rosenau carded 13th overall with a time of 14.68.

In the prelims of the 100m dash, freshman Jebarri Cumberbatch made his debut on the national stage, ousting his initial ranking of 26th to place 22nd with a time of 10.72.
