GULF SHORES, Ala. – A pair of national titles and a school-record for points scored on the men’s side highlighted the Eastern Oregon University track & field team’s final day at the 2016 NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
In total, the Mountaineer men tallied 39 points to take fifth overall, the team’s best performance in program history. Indiana Tech scored 86 points to claim the national title.
On the women’s side, EOU mustered 11 points to finish tied for 30th overall. Concordia (Neb.) posted 71 points to edge Indiana Tech (66) for the championship.
As a team, EOU clinched three event titles and saw seven individuals earn NAIA All-America recognition in at least one event.
The final day of the championships saw senior Ryan Rosenau steal the show in the 400m hurdles, capping his career with a national title thanks to a school-record time of 51.71.
Prior to Rosenau’s stellar performance, junior Matthew Kirkendall clinched All-America honors in the 110 m hurdles, as he took eighth with a time of 14.66.
In the men’s triple jump, Eric England concluded a record-breaking junior campaign with a national championship, leaping 16.07m (52-8.75) on his fourth jump and later capping it with a mark of 16.13m (52-11) on his final attempt. Meanwhile, junior Hakeem Belle (15.14m) mustered a fourth-place finish to card All-America accolades.
Freshman Kaden Walker made his nationals debut in the pole vault, clearing 4.50m (14-9) to tie for 15th overall.
On the women’s side, junior Harley McBride rose to the challenge in the high jump, springing 1.68m on her second attempt to claim eighth and All-America recognition.
