GULF SHORES, Ala. – True freshman Billy Godfrey placed fifth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn All-America honors, helping the College of Idaho to a Top-40 finish at the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Mickey Blackwell Stadium.

Godfrey, along with a seventh-place finish from Max Hampton in the 5,000-meters, helped the Coyotes to eight team points at the meet, good enough for a 37th-place finish among the over 100 schools in action.

Working in the lead pack of the steeplechase throughout, Godfrey was within striking distance with two laps to go, before John Gay of British Columbia and Michael Sciarra of The Master's broke away to finish first and second. The Salmon native grinded out the fifth-place finish in 9:20.74 – a new personal best time and just over a second off the C of I school record.

Competing in his final collegiate race, Hampton claimed his second All-America award and sixth of his four-year  C of I career, gutting out a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:48.84 – his third race of 5,000-meters or more over the past three days.  Teammate Dan Williams placed 14th in the 5,000-meters (15:22.38).

Also competing today was Joseph Bolin in the pole vault, however, the senior was unable to clear the opening height of 4.50 meters (14 feet, 9 inches).
