Zanon named NAIA Baseball Player of the Week
Zachary Shore, LCSC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For just the second time in the Jeremiah Robbins era, Lewis-Clark State College baseball has an NAIA Baseball Player of the Week as Jacob Zanon earned the award, the national office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Zanon hit .524 (11-for-21) to help lead the Warriors to a 5-0 week, including a sweep of NAIA West for Corban. In an 18-8 win over Central Washington, the junior outfielder went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. In fact, five of his 11 hits went for extra bases with two doubles and three home runs for a 1.048 slugging percentage. The Beaverton, Ore. native scored seven runs and drove in 10 while adding a stolen base.
In earning his first career national player of the week award, Zanon tallied at least two hits in each contest and currently ranked first in the NAIA in runs scored per game (1.5) and fourth in total runs scored (72). He is the first LC State baseball player to win the award since Brady Steiger did so on Mar. 19, 2013.
