2016 CCC Softball Championship Tournament Kicks Off Today

ASHLAND, Ore. – For the first time in school history, Southern Oregon University will be the host of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Softball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank.
 
The three-day, double elimination tournament begins today at 9 a.m., at University Field with tomorrow’s action starting at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.
 
The 22nd-ranked Raiders (34-14 overall, 15-5 CCC West, 20-8 CCC Overall) claimed the West Division regular season title, earning the top seed and the opportunity to host the event. Southern Oregon’s Kelsey Randall led the team in batting average (.412), hits (68), and runs scored with 40. Pitchers Sydney White (2.26 ERA) and Victoria Mackey (2.02 ERA) finished the regular season with double digit wins with 13 and 15 wins respectively.
 
Entering the weekend as the second-seed in the West is Oregon Tech (27-18 overall, 13-7 CCC West, 20-8 CCC) while last year’s tournament champion Corban (34-17 overall, 13-7 CCC West 18-10 CCC), comes in as the third-seed.
 
Earning the top seed in the East Division was Carroll College, with a record of 24-20 overall, going 7-5 in CCC East and 11-13 in the conference. The Saints led the East Division in batting average (.310) and in total ERA at 3.63.
 
Closing out the East representatives are second-seeded Eastern Oregon (25-21 Overall, 6-6 CCC East, 14-10 CCC) and third-seed Great Falls (22-16 overall, 6-6 CCC East, 12-12 CCC).
 
The first and second place finishers of the tournament will receive the CCC’s two automatic bids to the opening round of the NAIA World Series, scheduled for May 16-18.
