CLEVELAND – The Blue Raiders of
Lindsey Wilson captured its first NAIA Learfield Directors’ Cup. Lindsey Wilson will be honored at the 2016 NACDA Convention during the Learfield Directors’ Cup Awards Luncheon today.
Southern Oregon led eight CCC schools finishing in 8th place. The Raiders were followed by; College of Idaho 12th, Northwest Chrsitian 4oth, Eastern Oregon 41st, Oregon Tech 55th, Warner Pacific 116th, Evergreen State 128th and Corban 153rd.
Lindsey Wilson scored in the maximum 12 sports 12 (6 men’s/6 women’s sports), having one score omitted on the women’s side and two scores omitted on the men’s side. The Blue Raiders recorded a pair of runner-up on the women’s side, tennis and soccer, and recorded a third place finish in men’s tennis, its highest finish on the men’s side.
Oklahoma City finished second overall this year, recording 777 total points, capturing three national titles, two on the men’s side, golf and cross country and one in softball on the women’s side.
Wayland Baptist scored 750 points to finish third overall. The Pioneers captured the national championship in women’s indoor track and field.
Olivet Nazarene has finished in the top five with 735.50 total points with its highest finish coming on the men’s side, the national title in track and field. Finishing out the top five is
Indiana Wesleyan with 646 total points, scoring in 10 total sports, including a national title in men’s basketball.
The
Sooner and
Crossroads Conferences led all conferences with two institutions each in the top 10.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports in Division I – 10 men’s and 10 women’s; and 12 sports in the NAIA – six women’s and six men’s.
