SALEM, Ore. – Corban University Athletics announced on Tuesday that Abigail Farler has been hired as the new head coach of the Warrior Softball program. Following a successful NCAA Division 1 playing career and an accomplished coaching career across multiple levels, Farler is set to begin her duties as head coach at Corban immediately.

“I am pleased to announce Abigail Farler as the new head coach of Corban Warrior Softball,” said Corban Director of Athletics Greg Eide. “Although we had a very qualified pool of national candidates, Abigail’s playing and coaching experience, her passion for the sport, her zeal for life, her recruiting familiarity in the Pacific Northwest, and her fit with Corban’s mission, made her the ideal selection. I am confident that Abigail will do an outstanding job investing in every aspect of our student-athletes’ experience while also continuing to build on the competitiveness of our program.”

After an accomplished playing career at NCAA Division I, Marshall University, Farler spent the last three years at Western Oregon University (WOU), helping lead the Wolves as an assistant coach to the NCAA Division II West Regionals following winning the GNAC regular season and tournament titles in 2014. In 2016, she led the Wolves once again back to the GNAC Tournament, coming up just short of capturing the program’s second-straight crown.

“I am honored and blessed to be chosen by Dr. Nord, Greg Eide, and the search committee as the head coach for Corban University’s softball program,” said Farler. “I look forward to having the opportunity to work in the incredible environment that has been established at Corban and within the athletic department. The vision of the faculty and staff is exciting and this is a great time to be able to get on board. Without the support of my husband Matt, and our families, this opportunity to take on this new role would not be possible. I can’t wait to get started working with the student-athletes to develop a culture of giving, hard work, and playing with passion.”

During her time at WOU, Farler coached multiple pitchers to NFCA NCAA Division II West Region and All-GNAC Honors. She joined the Wolves after serving as an assistant coach with the Colorado School of Mines, helping lead the team to a school-record 40 wins in 2013. During her time with the Orediggers, Farler coached one player to NFCA First-Team All-America honors and helped the team finish ranked No. 11 in the national polls after advancing to the NCAA Softball Championships.

Prior to Colorado, Farler ran her own pitching clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., providing area athletes one-on-one instruction while serving as an instructor at numerous clinics. During that time, she also served as an assistant coach for both the Chaparral High School and Saguaro High School varsity teams.

Her playing career at Marshall University was a standout one, as she was named to the Conference USA All-League team and was a two-year captain on the squad. Following her career with the NCAA Division I Thundering Herd, Farler played professional softball with Utrecht Centrals in the Netherlands.

Farler graduated from Marshall in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education as a member of the Dean’s list. She is married to her husband, Matt Farler, and they have one daughter, Aubrey.

What others have to say about Farler:

Shonda Stanton, Marshall University Head Softball Coach:
“I am excited for Abigail to have this opportunity to lead Corban University Softball. Having coached her at Marshall University, I know she is the right fit. She will develop her student-athletes spiritually, academically, and athletically. Her commitment to exemplifying Christ-like character will benefit her student-athletes on and off the field. She has the passion and competitiveness to build them into Warriors for life. I am confident her work ethic, coaching ability, and knowledge of the game will help Corban Softball reach new heights and a sustained tradition of excellence.”

Carrie Webber, Azusa Pacific University Head Softball Coach:
“Abigail is not only a wonderful coach, but she is an exceptional person.
