LUBBOCK, Texas – For the second straight season, Lewis-Clark State College’s Jeremiah Robbins is a finalist for the Skip Bertman Coach of the Year Award.
On Thursday, the National College Baseball Hall of Fame announced the 10 finalists for the award, which honors the nation's top college baseball coach, regardless of level. The award, sponsored by Easton Sports, will be presented during the College Baseball Night of Champions ceremony on July 2.
Robbins just completed his fourth season at LCSC by winning his second consecutive national championship, and the 18th in the school's storied history. The Warriors claimed their crown, by defeating Faulkner University (Ala.) 12-11 in the championship game of the Avista NAIA World Series on June 3.
In his four seasons in Lewiston, Robbins has compiled a record of 190-44 and guided the Warriors to the World Series title game every year. The Warriors finished the 2016 campaign with a 52-8 mark and won the NAIA West after going 30-5 in group play. They also ended the year ranked No. 1 in the final NAIA Top 25 poll.
The Bertman award is named after the former LSU coach, who led the Tigers from 1984-2001. During his tenure, Bertman won five national championships and coached 31 players who went on to play in Major League Baseball. He was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
The other nine finalists for the award include Andrew Checketts from UC-Santa Barbara, Gary Gilmore from Coastal Carolina, Kevin O’Sullivan from Florida, Tim Tadlock from Texas Tech, Greg Brown from Nova Southeastern (Fla.), Tim Scannell from Trinity (Texas), Ryan Cougill from Yavapai (Ariz.), Chris Kirtland from Jones County (Miss.), and Doug Wren from Tyler (Texas).
