Fletcher and Luey Named U.S. Bank Scholar-Athletes of the Year
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Northwest Christian’s Michelle Fletcher and Corban’s Kellen Luey have been named the 2015-16 U.S Bank Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference office announced.
Fletcher, a junior on NCU’s cross country and track & field teams, boasts a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in Biology. She earned Academic All-Conference and Daktronics-NAIA National Scholar Athlete honors in both cross country and track.
Fletcher earned All-CCC honors and NAIA All-American honors as she helped lead the Beacons to the 2015 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship. She finished 3rd at the CCC Championship and 10th at the NAIA National Championship.
In Track & Field, she won the CCC 3000m Steeplechase Championship and finished fourth in the 5000m run at the CCC championships. Fletcher went on to earn All-American honors with a fourth-place finish at the NAIA National Championship. Her points were a key factor in the Beacons 11th-place finish which was the highest in school history and led the entire conference.
Luey, a senior defender for Corban’s soccer team, became the first Warrior to receive the A.O. Duer Scholarship for the NAIA based on his scholarship, character, citizenship, and playing ability. He was also named to the CoSIDA All-America First-Team.
Luey earned a 4.0 cumulative GPA as a key starter on his team that qualified for the NAIA National Championships and boasted an NAIA-leading goals-against-average for majority of 2015 campaign.
He was also an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a CCC Academic All-Conference honoree.
