SOU and NCU Tagged as Favorites for the 2016 Cross Country Season
LA GRANDE, Ore. – After a vote by Cascade Collegiate Conference head coaches, Southern Oregon has been selected as the favorite in the 2016 Men’s Cross Country Preseason Coaches’ Poll while Northwest Christian earned the top spot in the women’s poll.
Southern Oregon finished with nine first place votes in the poll, totaling 81 points. The Raiders claimed the 2015 cross country championship to earn their eighth title in a row.
College of Idaho came in second place with 69 points while Eastern Oregon, Northwest Christian and Oregon Tech tied for third-place with 53 points.
Finishing off the men’s poll is Corban (39 points) in sixth, Northwest (29) in seventh, Warner Pacific (16) in eighth and Multnomah (12) in ninth.
On the women’s side, Northwest Christian also received all nine first-place votes to lead the poll with 71 points. NCU claimed the 2015 cross country title as they try to go for their third straight this year. The Beacons are also the reigning NAIA National Champions and will look to defend their title Nov. 19th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In second was College of Idaho with 71 points followed by Oregon Tech in third with 59 points and Southern Oregon in fourth with 58 points.
Rounding out the poll are Corban (39) in fifth, Northwest (39) in sixth, Eastern Oregon (30) in sevenths, Warner Pacific (16) in eighth and Multnomah (11) in ninth.
The 2016 CCC Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Corban in Salem, Ore., and are slated for Nov. 5.
