Corban University Volleyball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Corban University volleyball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for August 15-21, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
Corban, picked 5
th in the CCC preseason poll, started their 2016 campaign with wins over Frontier Conference defending champions Carroll College and NCAA D2 member Concordia University.
On Friday the Warriors defeated the Fighting Saints in four sets (25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18). In addition to outstanding team defense Junior outside hitter Amber Parker contributed 25 kills and a .391 hitting percentage, while sophomore setter Madison McLain totaled 50 assists.
On Saturday Corban came from behind to defeat Concordia University (Ore.), in four sets (20-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-23). For the Warriors, it was the first time they had defeated the Cavaliers, a former Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opponent since 2011. Parker, a returning All-American, continued to do damage at the net recording 24 kills in the win.
Corban (2-0, 0-0 CCC) returns to the court for a scrimmage at Saint Martin's University (Wash.) on Wednesday before heading to Montana for the Big Sky Classic Aug, 26-27.
