SANTA CLARITA, Calif.- The Oregon Tech volleyball team split its two matches on Friday on the first day of the Master’s College Tournament. After falling to No. 16 Westmont (Calif.) in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-16) to start the day, the Lady Owls bounced back knocking off Life Pacific College in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Owls Head Coach Andrew Clifton said, “We got good consistent play today from Mykala Rubey. We are still figuring some things out but getting better every day."
In the first match against Westmont he Owls struggled with a negative kill percentage of .010 while Westmont hit a staggering .333 percent.
Kelsey Sampson led the way for the Owls with 6 kills followed by Rubey with 5.
In the night cap, the Owls had a much better kill percentage of .248 led by Sampson’s 13 kills with Marlee Smith adding 10 kills.
Sampson and Waverly Green added 16 assists each to lead the Owls who will play two more matches Saturday in the Tournament starting out with Hope International at 10:00 AM before playing the host school, The Master’s College, at 2:00 pm at the MacArthur Center.
