With one day of rest in four days, NU got off to a good start in the 13th minute when Kyle Zimmerman took Jose Valentine’s pass and put it past the Simpson goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. Senior Jacob Weaver then put the Eagles up 2-0 with his score at the 30:36 mark. Elijah Gordon earned the assist on the goal. Northwest U would take the lead into halftime out shooting the Red Hawks 10-5. Twelve minutes into the second half, Senior midfielder Kieren Raney scored his first goal of the season off an assist from teammate Branson Corwin. Freshman Jordan Travis finished a solid week of soccer with a score in the 75th minute with sophomore Elijah Gordon getting his second assist on the play. Daniel Christenson led Northwest U (3-0-0) in goal earning the shutout with 5 saves for the game. NU outshot Simpson 23-9, marking the third straight game the defense has given up total shots in single digits. Zimmerman led the Eagles with 4 shots, 4 shots on goal and one goal. Simpson University’s (0-3-0) Michael Jones made 7 saves in goal for the Red Hawks while Solomon Dutton led the team with 4 shots, 2 shots on goal. Said NU head coach, Gary McIntosh, “Overall I was pleased with our effort and work rate in the game today. We’re still learning to play with each other and, at times, we look good. Our early scoring chances continue to elude us, but the fact we are creating good opportunities is excellent. Goals continue to come from different guys and it shows we have multiple players who can score for us. Three games in four days is not easy to play, but the guys showed the discipline, the right attitude, and the effort to get us the three wins. We’re looking forward to getting home and preparing for our next game.” Northwest U will remain on the road after returning to Kirkland and will play Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., on September 1.
