Eastern Oregon University Volleyball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for August 22-28, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The defending CCC regular season champions posted a 4-0 weekend at the Big Sky Challenge in Butte, Montana. In addition to the perfect tournament record, Eastern swept each match 3-0.
On Friday the Mountaineers defeated Carroll College 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) to open tournament play as junior Amanda Miller tallied 16 kills. In the evening contest Eastern used a .369 hitting percentage to topple Montana State University-Northern 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-20). Five players recorded five or more kills against the Skylights.
On Saturday morning the Mountaineers showed no intentions of a letdown as they defeated No. 20 Concordia University (Neb.), in another 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-14, 25-22). In the final match of the day Eastern again showed their offensive strength hitting past, around and over No. 9 Vanguard. A .452 hitting percentage highlighted the 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) victory.
Eastern (7-1, 0-0 CCC) will open CCC play on Sept. 1 as they host The College of Idaho. The Yotes also came away from the Big Sky Tournament with a 4-0 record and were picked No. 2 in the leagues preseason coaches’ poll behind No. 1 EOU.
