Weaver's Goals Lift NU to Shutout Victory 9/10/2016 12:18:05 AM WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Northwest University sophomore, Whitney Weaver, scored two goals to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 shutout of Whitman College tonight. NU improves to 3-1 in the preseason with one non-conference game remaining. Weaver’s first goal came in the 27th minute scoring off Annie Shellerud’s pass. Her second goal, fourth of the season, came at the 51:18 mark in the second half scoring unassisted and the Eagles post their third win of the season to improve to 3-1. NU goalkeeper Lauren Hellum earned the shutout making two saves in 90 minutes of play. Northwest U outshot Whitman 18-11, with Weaver taking six shots, five shots on goal. Cassidy Brewin and Bryanna Schreiber split time in goal for Whitman (0-3), each grabbing three saves and each logging 45 minutes in goal. Lena de Guzman had five shots for the Missionaries. Said NU head coach, Bryan Chud, “This match was as complete a performance as we have put in this season. Our shape as a team defensively was good and we scored two good goals and looked dangerous going forward all night.” Northwest U now travels to McMinnville, Ore., for a Saturday match up with Linfield College at 3 p.m.
