Eagles Drop 1-0 Decision to Central Washington
ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Northwest University defense yielded 25 shots, but Central Washington capitalized on just one shot which was enough for a 1-0 shutout victory for the Wildcats on a sunny, 73 degree afternoon.
Central Washington’s offense pressed and challenged the NU defense with 14 first half shots and Mackenzie Nolte was the only Wildcat to find success as she took a centering pass from teammate Whitney Lowe and scored into the back right of the net with a right foot shot in the 41st minute. CWU’s defense was solid on the day limiting NU to five shots for the game. Emily Holt went the distance for the Wildcats in goal making three saves in 90 minutes and earning the shutout.
Northwest U goalkeepers, Kat Sanchez and Ashlyn Juul gave starting keeper Lauren Hellum a break, splitting time in goal for the Eagles and came up with five saves. Sanchez finished the first half with two saves while Juul made three saves in the second period.
Eagle coach, Bryan Chud, substituted liberally, playing 20 players, with the team playing its third contest in five games. Hannah Nicholson led NU with two shots, both shots on goal.
Northwest U drops to 4-2 in their final preseason game while Central Washington remains undefeated at 5-0. The Wildcats' four previous wins came against NCAA Division II opponents. CWU outshot NU 25-5 including 10 corner kicks.
The Eagles will open Cascade Conference play on Friday, Sept. 16, when they host Warner Pacific College in Kirkland at 3 p.m.
