Rocky women's soccer outlasts theh College of Idaho
BILLINGS, Mont. - September 13, 2016 - The Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears women's soccer team notched their first Cascade Collegiate Conference victory of the season by defeating a pesky College of Idaho squad, 2-1, on Wendy's Field in Billings, Saturday.
Rocky's Mhari Smith, a freshman forward from Edinburgh, Scotland, found the net at the 4:33 minute mark, putting her Battlin' bears up 1-0.
The College of Idaho's Katelyn Benavidez, a junior forward from Saugus, Calif., knotted the score at 1-1 with an unassisted goal of her own at the 4:42 mark.
The Battlin' Bears broke the tie at the 56:47 minute mark, when Leah Hippauf, a sophomore from Borsfleth, Germany, scored off of a Smith assist.
The Battlin' Bears scored their two goals from their eight shots on goal, while the Lady 'Yotes gathered six.
The Battlin' Bears are now 1-0 in league play and 4-3 overall. They return to the pitch Sept. 20 when they host the University of Great Falls at Wendy's Field on the campus of Rocky Mountain College. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
