NU Women Open CCC PLay with Shutout Victory

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University scored three second half goals for a 3-0 shutout victory over Warner Pacific in the teams Cascade Conference Opener. The Eagles scored a goal in the 79th and 80th minute and one in the 86th to pull out the victory.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half as the defenses held strong with 17 total shots taken, 11 for Northwest U and 6 for Warner Pacific. Cathy Lara made five saves in goal for WPC in the half stopping the Eagles’ shots. NU’s Lauren Hellum had a save in each period to earn the shutout, her fourth of the season.

Sophomore Whitney Weaver started the NU scoring string at 78:32 taking Brianna Sillivan’s pass and scored from 10 yards out on the right side. Less than a minute later, Jalisa Santiago put NU up 2-0 with her shot off a rebound from 6 yards out on the right side.

Hannah Nicholson put the game away at the 85:56 mark when she took Tiffany Taylor’s shot off the sidebar and finished from the left, 4 yards away.

Northwest U (5-2, 1-0 CCC) held the edge in corner kicks with 7 and the Eagles outshot Warner Pacific 24-10. Weaver had 5 shots, 3 shots on goal with one goal.

Cathy Lara totaled 8 saves for Warner Pacific (2-3, 0-1 CCC).
