KIRKLAND, Wash. - With the clock running down and headed for an overtime period, Eastern Oregon’s Chelsey Nichol’s free kick from 30 yards out with 55 seconds remaining proved to be the game winner giving the Mountaineers a 1-0 CCC victory and improving to 2-0 in conference play. Northwest U drops to 1-1 in league play and 5-3 overall.

The two teams battled for 90 minutes with Eastern Oregon holding the upper hand on shots, 21-11, and forcing Eagle goalkeeper, Lauren Hellum, to make 8 saves. Jessica Parker earned the shutout in goal for EOU grabbing two saves for the day.

Eastern Oregon began pressing more in the second half which led to 14 shots where Hellum made 6 of her 8 saves. NU missed on two goals late in the game when Jessie Nicholl’s shot in the 86th minute and Madison Nortune’s attempt sailed wide of the goal.

Nichol’s goal came at 89:05 as she sent a rocket passed the outstretched arms of Northwest U’s keeper, Hellum.

Northwest U head coach, Bryan Chud said, “We played with a lot of heart today and it is a really tough one to lose. We have played 5 games in the past 8 days and I am very proud of the effort the ladies have given in every game. Unfortunately, today we came up short, but we will rebound from this loss, learn from it, and respond next week against Evergreen.”
