NU's Annie Shellerud scored the Eagles second goal
Eagles Shutout Geoducks for CCC Win
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Powered by two second half goals, Northwest University earned a 2-0 shutout over the Evergreen State College this afternoon in Cascade Conference play. Lauren Hellum earned the shutout in goal for Northwest U as the Eagles improved to 2-1 in CCC play.
Neither team could manage a score in the first half as Northwest U outshot the Geoducks 11-6, with many of the Eagles shots carrying high or wide of the goal. NU's Allison Lorraine came close to a score in the 13th miinute when her free kick came off the crossbar just missing a goal. Hellum made three key saves in the half to prevent an Evergreen score.
In the 49th minute, Tatyana Reveles’ shot found the goal from 12 yards out on the right side. She took a pass from Jubilee Zevenbergen putting her ball passed Kayla Baskett the Evergreen goalkeeper to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Annie Shellerud was then the recipient of ball coming off Baskett as she headed the ball in from 6 yards out on the right side. It was Bailey Travis’ hard shot from the left that Baskett was unable to handle.
Northwest U (6-3, 2-1 CCC) outshot Evergreen 27-12 with Jubilee Zevenbergen taking 7 shots, one shot on goal. Tiffany Taylor also got off 6 shots for the Eagles. Lauren Hellum made 5 saves in goal for the shutout.
Kayla Baskett made 4 saves in goal for Evergreen (2-3-1, 0-2-1 CCC) with Laura Barnes taking four shots for the Geoducks, three on goal.
Said NU Coach Bryan Chud following the game, “It was important that we responded today after the last minute loss last Saturday, and we did just that. We needed to get the three points today and I'm pleased with the result. We had some injuries today, but this team is deep and it was good to see players stepping up when needed.”
