ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon men's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit in the second half and forced a 2-2 draw with Northwest Christian after 20 minutes of overtime Saturday afternoon at Raider Stadium.
Down 2-0,
Sean McManamon cut the Beacons' lead in half with a 27-yard free kick from the right side that he placed just inside the far post in the 53rd minute. With less than six minutes left in regulation,
Ahmon Afenegus took a corner kick – SOU's third in the span of a minute – from the right side and guided a liner to the far post, where
Carlos Magana knocked in a diving header for the equalizer.
The Beacons (5-3-1 overall, 1-2-1 Cascade Conference) went ahead in the 36th minute, as Victor Irechukwu's free kick – essentially a corner kick minus a few yards – from the right side was kicked in on the fly by Sergio Maldonado. In the 50th minute, an SOU defender sent a pass by keeper Wyatt Zabinksi toward the goal, and Irechukwu beat Zabinski to it for a short empty-netter.
The Raiders (4-2-1, 0-1-1) also played overtime on Friday, dropping a 2-1 decision to 11th-ranked Corban in the 107th minute. NCU lost its game Friday at Oregon Tech, 4-0.
