KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Oregon Tech’s Garrett Byrd has been named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.
A junior defender from Medford, Ore., Byrd’s solid play in the back line helped the Owls to post two victories this weekend against Northwest Christian University and nationally ranked No. 11 Corban University. Byrd played in all 180 minutes, while holding the two opponents to a combined 19 shots, including keeping Corban to 9 total shots, which is half the shots they have been averaging to this point in the season.
The Oregon Tech defense has kept 3 clean sheets and only conceded 1 goal in CCC play and is now ranked 3rd in NAIA with 6 total Shutouts.
