Hawgood and Baird Chosen to Lead Student Athlete Advisory Committee
LA GRANDE, Ore. – College of Idaho’s Emily Hawgood and The Evergreen State College’s Cheyenne Baird were selected as Chair and Vice-Chair of the 2016-17 Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) the conference office announced today.
“I am very excited to begin working with Emily and Cheyenne, along with the rest of the committee,” stated Commissioner Rob Cashell. “The SAAC represents the voice of over 2500 CCC student athletes and it is important to involve them in our processes as we continue moving the CCC forward.”
Both Hawgood and Baird took part in the annual SAAC retreat which was held September 11 in conjunction with the triennial compliance seminar and the fall Council of Athletic Directors meetings. The event brought together SAAC representatives from each full member school, campus administrators and NAIA staff.
Hawgood, a native of Beatrice, Zimbabwe is a three-sport athlete at CI competing in cross country, swimming and track/field. The senior is pursuing a degree in exercise science and has received CCC Academic All-Conference recognition. Emily is the daughter of Stoff and Christine Hawgood.
Baird, a junior at Evergreen is a member of the volleyball team and majoring in education. A native of Puyallup, Washington, Cheyenne is the daughter of Chad and Jackie Baird.
Formed in 2013 the CCC SAAC serves the following functions:
- Discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare
- Assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus
- Increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process
- Promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs
- Provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.
