Oropeza, Porch Lead Geoducks to 4-1 Victory
OLYMPIA – Juan Oropeza scored the first goal and assisted on the final goal and Ryan Porch added a goal and assist as The Evergreen State College defeated the visiting Multnomah University Lions, 4-1, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer match played Friday afternoon at Geoduck Pitch.
Oropeza, a senior midfielder, opened the scoring for the Geoducks (3-0-2 overall, 2-0-2 CCC) and got his first of the season at 10:33, shooting past Multnomah keeper Manny Guillermo and into the far side netting. The assist went to Miguel Viramontes, his second.
Christian Segovia netted his first goal at 16:47, knocking home a rebound from the middle of the box after a shot by Ryan Porch hit off the cross bar. The assist went to Porch, his team-leading third of the campaign.
The Geoducks, who led 2-0 at the break, added their third goal at 61:59 with Porch getting his first of the season. Jake Zimmerman hit a nice cross through the defense from the right side where Porch was waiting at the front doorstep to tap the ball into the net.
Multnomah (2-7-0, 0-5-0) got one back at 82:35 on a nicely taken free kick by Noe Favila. Lining up at the top of the box, the freshman hit a curling left-footer just over the reach of Evergreen keeper Thomas Clark, the ball scraping the underside of the cross bar and dropping into the goal.
Evergreen's last score came with 31 seconds left when Tino Pantaleon ran onto a pass from Oropeza and tapped the ball in from close range.
The Geoducks enjoyed a 26-5 advantage in shots and had seven corner kicks to three for the Lions.
Evergreen could well have scored at least three more were it not for the heroics of Guillermo in the Multnomah goal. He finished with 10 saves, five in each half. In the second half alone he stopped a penalty kick and made brilliant stops against Jordan Zimmerman and Oropeza.
Clark had little to do in the Geoducks goal and finished the match with one save.
Evergreen returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts the Walla Walla Wolves at Geoduck Pitch.
