KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- In front of a large crowd, the Oregon Tech women’s soccer team scored twice in the last 15 minutes of play to capture a 2-1 non-league win over William Jessup University in the first ever game on the new OIT Soccer Field Saturday afternoon.
William Jessup (1-2) scored in the 23
rd minute to take the early 1-0 lead but it was Oregon Tech (2-1) who dominated play late to score twice and capture the win.
Hannah Lettington took a nifty pass from Celia Rangel to score the first ever goal on the new turf and give the visitors from Rocklin, California the 1-0 lead.
Each team missed on several opportunities in the first half with Tech having an 11-6 advantage in shots for the period and a 5-1 edge in shots on frame but the category that matters the most had William Jessup with the 1-0 lead at the break.
Tech was by far the more aggressive team in the second half, controlling play and tempo as the Warriors seemed to lose a step.
Oregon Tech took advantage of that extra energy and finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 77
th minute as Cassidy Gosvener got past the defense and shot a laser towards the WJU goal keeper who made a quick save. The ball however bounced over to Tech’s Jodie Reoch who didn’t miss from point blank range, sending the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1
Just three minutes later the Owls took their first lead as Tarryn Miyamura set up Gosvener inside the box for the game winner in the 81
st minute.
Oregon Tech will next host UC Merced Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm. On the brand new Oregon Tech Soccer Field.
