PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University volleyball team found their way back on the winning side, taking down Pacific University in three sets 25-23, 25-22, and 25-19 in their first home contest in eight matches on Tuesday night at Lytle Gymnasium.
The Lions (4-5, 0-3 CCC) ended a four match losing streak in dominating fashion, earning the programs first win over an NCAA institution.
"I first want to give credit to Pacific, they did a great job serving and swung aggressively throughout the night," said head coach
Jenna Bouey. "Halverson had an all-around great game and Antal was key for us in the front row as well. A great win for the program."
MU opened up the first set on a 6-2 run with the help of two straight kills by
Patty Batoon. Pacific kept things interesting, bouncing back and taking a lead 20-17 lead over the Lions, but MU was able to close out the set with an 8-3 advantage to win early.
Miranda Halverson led the attack for the Lions, recording a match high 15 kills on 33 swings, finishing with a .455 attacking percentage, the highest mark for any player this season.
Sophomore
Marissa Rhodes orchestrated the offense, racking up 23 assists on the night, while
Rachel Woodcock added 12 of her own.
Multnomah kept the rhythm going in the second set, jumping out to an 11-3 lead. The Lions held it together throughout the set, never losing the lead as they headed into the break with a 25-22 set win.
MU held the Boxers to a .174 attacking percentage while boasting a .296 percentage, totaling 45 kills on the night. Halverson also totaled a game high 15 digs while freshmen
Jenna Horton and
Maile Kam tallied 13 digs each.
Set three featured both teams trading points until the Lions began to breakaway with a 17-13 lead, eventually closing out the match after two errors by Pacific.
The Lions stay at home on Friday night, returning to Cascade Conference play as they host Walla Walla University.
