Portland Chill Blows Onto BV Court, Knights Fall to NCU
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Warner Pacific shooters were as cold as the recent Portland weather, resulting in a 82-61 loss to 12th ranked Northwest Christian tonight in CCC play.
The host Knights managed to hit on just 29 percent of their field goal attempts, including just 7 of 29 from behind the three point line. NCU on the other hand, found enough holes in the WP zone to score at a 49 percent clip.
The visiting Beacons never trailed in the game, methodically pulling away from Warner Pacific with tough defense and timely scoring. NCU built a 10 point halftime lead, then held off a surge from the Knights ever the early stages of the second.
WPC chipped away at the gap after halftime, drawing as close as four points (48-44) after
Collin Malcolm drained a trey with 15:03 to play. The Beacons answered with a 12-4 run and were not seriously threatened again.
Jay Mayernik was the beneficiary of the Knight misses, as the senior grabbed 21 rebounds to go with 19 points.
Malcolm and
Zack Gonzales led WPC with 13 points each.
