FINAL RESULTS

NAMPA, Idaho – Senior Matthew Kirkendall shattered a school record in the 60m hurdles, and the EOU track & field team capped its season opener on Saturday at the Ed Jacoby Invitational.

Kirkendall’s effort of 8.29 led him to a seventh-place finish behind six NCAA Division I competitors, as he bettered Chris Hoppie’s mark of 8.40 set in 2008.

Senior Harley McBride welcomed her senior season with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.59m (5-2.50). McBride was an NAIA All-American last season in the event.

Several student-athletes competed in a Mountaineer uniform for the first time, including Haley White, who posted a mark of 9.69 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles to make the finals and notch the eighth-best mark in program history. She ultimately settled for eighth overall in the finals. On the men’s side, junior Josh Wallin grabbed second in the 400m dash with a time of 50.64.

In the women’s pentathlon, sophomore Paige Dodd earned third place with 3,050 points. Her efforts included a high jump mark of 1.63m (5-4.25) to win the event and clinch the NAIA ‘B’ standard. It was also the third-best mark in the EOU record books. She later booked a second-place finish in the 800m run, clocking a time of 2:33.24 – a 22-second improvement from last season.

Senior thrower Marta Stangel made the finals of the weight throw, where she heaved 14.21m (46-7.50) to snag sixth overall. She also finished in sixth place in the shot put.

In the men’s high jump, junior Max Fahlgren recorded a personal-best tally of 1.91m (6-3.25) to finish in third place. His effort was nearly four inches better than his previous PR.

Sophomore Morgan Reddington (5.20m, 17-0.75) and freshman Payton Jolley (5.09m, 16-8.50) went 9-10 in the long jump, tallying the third- and fifth-best marks, respectively, in the EOU record books.

In the finals of the 200m dash, freshman Elizabeth Herbes took seventh with a time of 27.25, while sophomore Katie Emerson (1:00.98) represented EOU in the 400m dash with a fifth-place finish. Going the distance for the Blue and Gold, junior Faith Homer took third in the 1000m run with a mark of 3:12.73.
