Big 4th Quarter Lifts Owls Past Yotes
Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Lady Owls of Oregon Tech move to 7-2 in the CCC, as they pull ahead in the standings over College of Idaho (6-3). Tech pulled ahead by double digits in the fourth quarter and never let the Yotes get back into a rhythm, as they ended the game with a score of 69-54 in favor of the home team.
The Lady Owls came out strong, with Morgan Roberts-Ili scoring 6 of the first 8 points of the game while also picking up a block under the hoop. Tech would continue to take it to the Yotes until the first timeout was called with the score sitting 13-2 in favor of the home team. The first quarter would see the Yotes go on a 2-7 scoring run over the Owls, bringing the score 15-9.
To start the second quarter, Yotes sophomore Alyssa Case would come out and hit a 3-pointer, launching a 2-10 scoring run for the visitors, taking the score to 17-19 before the home team would call a timeout to regroup. The pause in action would prove useful to the Lady Owls, as the scoring momentum shifted back to the home team. The half would come to a close with the Owls going on a 12-3 scoring run to extend their lead to 29-22.
The second half of play would see both teams fight back and forth trying to get good looks at the hoop. The Lady Owls defense would limit the Lady Yotes opportunities, as the teams would break with a timeout, the score 38-26 in favor of the home team. The break would see COI come out with a new level of energy, as they would score 6 quick points forcing the Owls to take another break in the action. The Yotes again would come out putting the Owls under pressure forcing two turnovers, which Yote forward, Jaycin Tini, would convert one for a big 3-pointer, bringing the score within 3 points at 38-35. The quarter would close with Tech maintaining their lead, but Tini hitting another 3-pointer to bring the game to 44-40 heading into the final quarter of play.
The fourth quarter of play would see the energy of the game ramped up, as both teams showed determination on both ends of the court. The Owls would maintain their composure under the Yotes pressure, as a break in the action with just under 5:00 minutes to play would see the score at 55-46. The final few minutes of play would see the Lady Owls extend their lead to double digits and not let up. The game would come to a close with the score 69-54.
Tech ended the game with four players in double digits on the stat sheet. Bailey Nelson led the way with 17 points and Morgan Robert-Ili contributing 16, while Carly McIsaac and Ashleigh Vandenbrink add 12 and 10 apiece.
The Yotes closed the afternoon out with three players in double digits, as Madison Pilster and Jaycin Tini each scored 13 points, with Petra Lumpert adding 10.
With the win, the Lady Owls move to 7-2 in the CCC, while the Lady Yotes move to 6-3.
The Lady Owls will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, January 15 at 3:00p as they take on Eastern Oregon University at home on Danny Miles Court. C of I will Play Southern Oregon in ashland at 1:00 pm
