Eastern Oregon Women’s Basketball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for January 16-22, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The No. 17 Mountaineers earned two critical road wins to remain tied for second place in the CCC standings. The games against Northwest Christian University and Corban University were pushed to Saturday and Sunday afternoon affairs due to road closures and hazardous conditions on interstate I-84 which delayed their departure to the west side of the state. In both instances EOU ended six game winning streaks by NCU and Corban.
On Saturday, junior Stormee Van Belle led Eastern Oregon with 19 points in the 74-68 win over the Beacons. Senior Donneisha Webber added 17 points including a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Against the Warriors of Corban, four Mountaineers reached double figures led by Maya Ah You Dias with 16 points.Van Belle would add 12 points while Webber and junior Reece Bauer chipped in 10 points each in the 76-56 victory.
Eastern Oregon (17-4,10-2 CCC) will be back at home next Friday and Saturday as they host The Evergreen State College and Northwest University on January 27-28.
