Balanced Attack Propels No. 19 EOU Women’s Basketball Past Evergreen, 83-47

LA GRANDE, Ore. – All 13 members of the 19th-ranked EOU women’s basketball team put points on the board, and the Mountaineers used a total-team effort to muster an 83-47 victory over the Evergreen State College on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.
 
EOU (18-4, 11-2 CCC) looked dominant from the start, leaping to an 18-0 lead and extending the margin to as many as 45 in the fourth quarter.
 
Junior forward Mariah Swanson and senior post Ashley Knight led the way with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as EOU shot 44.9 percent (31-for-69) on the night. The Blue and Gold scored 36 points in the paint and forced 19 Geoduck turnovers. 
 
In the opening four minutes, EOU opened the affair on an 18-0 run after making its first eight shots, including four from downtown. Evergreen (4-17, 3-11 CCC) managed to stop the bleeding and cut the deficit to 14 (18-4), but the Blue and Gold closed the first frame with a 17-4 burst to keep the momentum rolling.
 
The Mountaineers saw 10 different players score in the opening 10 minutes, and the squad’s half-court press helped garner 23 points off turnovers. EOU notched 30 points from its bench on the way to taking a 32-point (55-23) advantage into the locker room.
 
In the third quarter, the Mountaineers led by as many as 43 (73-30), as junior guard Payton Parrish nailed a triple and freshman forward Kate Hogan cashed in a jumper to cap a 15-0 run.
 
Freshman guard Andi Warn accounted for six of EOU’s 10 fourth-quarter points, and the home squad ultimately improved to 7-0 at home this season.

13 – All 13 active Mountaineers scored in the victory over Evergreen.
7-0 – EOU remained perfect (7-0) at home this season. Since the 2011-12 campaign, the Mountaineers have gone 70-8 at Quinn Coliseum.
18 – The Blue and Gold scored the first 18 points of the game to pull away.
