Northwest University Women’s Indoor Track Distance Medley Relay Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Northwest University women’s indoor track distance medley relay team has been named the “Team of the Week” for January 23-29, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The DMR team, competing in the University of Washington Husky Invitational ran an NAIA seasons best 12:04.35. The time, which will be slightly adjusted, based on the indoor track configuration at UW, is still over 11 seconds faster than any other time in the NAIA for 2017.
The team of; Lily Engelbrekt, Shandon Lystad, Sarah Estabrook and Cassidy Brown finished 11th out of 18 teams competing. NU was the only NAIA team in the field and competed against NCAA Division I teams such as Stanford, Washington, Nevada, Montana, and California. Stanford won the women’s DMR. A distance medley relay is made up of a 1200 meter leg, a 400 meter leg, an 800 meter leg, and a 1600 meter in that order. The total distance run is 4000 meters, or nearly 2.5 miles.
Northwest has two more indoor meets on their schedule as they in prepare for the NAIA Indoor National Championships. The championships will be held in Johnson City, Tennessee March 2-4.
