GLENEDEN BEACH, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University women's golf team performed well against tough competition on Monday and Tuesday at the Coastal Collegiate Classic, and it was rookie Bethany Bullers that stole the show for the Warriors, winning her first-ever collegiate tournament in the process.
RESULTS
"The team had their struggles the first day but remained mentally tough through fast greens and poor weather conditions," said associate head women's golf coach Katie Lander. "I am very proud of Bethany for pushing through and coming out on top with her first career collegiate win."
As a team, the Warriors finished in third place in the non-conference event that featured seven teams. After a first round 324, Corban recorded a round-two mark of 336 in rainy conditions to take third place overall as a team, finishing behind the team champion and No. 8-ranked Rocky Mountain College (Mont.), and second-place/No. 24-ranked Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho).
Bullers carded a school-record single-round score of 70 for the Warriors in round one, taking a commanding lead into day two. While her round two score of 82 was not off the charts like day one, it was more than enough to still win by five strokes in the tough conditions.
Rocky Mountain and Lewis-Clark State players combined to take up the next eight top-finishes, and College of Idaho standout Natalie Mullins finished in a tie for ninth for the Yotes.
For the Warriors, Casey Jansen placed 11th overall with a tournament total of 167 (82, 85), while Jocelyn Dacuag placed 13th with a score of 169 (85, 84). Rounding out Corban's top-four golfers was Faith Newburn, coming into the clubhouse at a total of 172 (87, 85).
Corban returns to the course next Monday and Tuesday at the Vikes Shootout in Victoria, Canada.
